If you enjoy cross-country or trail riding then you will certainly enjoy The Gambia. There are literally hundreds of beaches, trails, loose surface unmade roads and donkey tracks. The Gambia is an African country that welcomes mountain biking. There has never been a better time to mountain bike The Gambia!
Personal service is the key to our riding experience. Our group sizes are small with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 7 riders. Our guide will take you on some of our favourite rides. These are predominantly cross-country rides in the stunning Gambian countryside with even some challenging technical sections. We ride in some amazing countryside, along coastal peninsulas and through some stunning scenerys.
At AB Mountain Bike Fun we have two standards of bicycle for hire; those that are designed to cope with serious off road riding and those that are more suited to recreational riding around the roads or on the dusty tracks that criss-cross The Gambia.
Rent your own mountain bike: As part of our mountain bike hire service and for your convenience we can deliver the bikes to your hotel or apartment and provide you with a guide. We are also happy to suggest some routes for you to ride. These include routes further afield where; with AB Gambia Car Rental you can explore more remote destinations or off road trails. Enjoy!
We grade our trips based on cycling experience and fitness. Our ‘green’ beginner trips are aimed at reasonably fit people who may not have had much experience of cycling off road. Our ‘intermediate’ trips are for regular bikers used to riding in all kind of situations.
We have no set itinerary as we flex it according to the group at the time but expect the day to start early with a short transfer to start the ride at 9 or 10am finishing by 4.30pm (earlier endings in hotter months).
We have a number of mountain bikes just waiting to help you explore this beautiful sunny African country. They have a rugged design with front suspension and are suitable for road riding and some off-road riding. If you just want to ride on the tarmac or one of the gravel roads exploring the villages or coastline we also have bikes that will suit you. Fancy a little exercise? If so please Contact Us for details of our rates and conditions.

- You won't waste your day getting lost.
- You will be taken to breathtakingly beautiful areas that alone, you may not discover.

We organise guided rides most weeks. If you are in The Gambia and you fancy joining us on a guided mountain bike ride then please Contact Us for details. Our guides are fully trained mountain bike leaders and qualified in emergency first aid so you will be in safe hands. They will share with you their love for The Gambia and their experience and enthusiasm for the great outdoors.
2. What if I get tired? The support vehicle will be close by on all rides carrying refreshments, water and any spare kit if necessary. You are free to use the support vehicle whenever you wish. There is no pressure on you to keep up with the rest of the group. You're on holiday so stop, take in the views and take some pictures.
3. What kit do I need? For our cycling trips, you do not need to buy expensive cycle clothing if you do not already own it. Lightweight (preferably breathable) t-shirts and shorts together with training shoes will be fine. If you are considering buying some cycle specific clothing, the most important piece of kit would be cycle specific shorts with padding and not to forget a helmet.
4. How hot will it be? The Gambia is blessed with sun all year round. In the dry season (November to mid June), the dry countryside is ablaze with wild flowers which you can enjoy in warm sunshine with plenty of cool breezes. Average temperatures during the day in these months are in the early 30's. The heavy rain season starts from mid July to the end of October with high humidity, hot temperatures andheavy showers so we don’t recommend bike trips or travels in these months.
5. What about safety? Mountain biking is an active sport so can be potentially dangerous. We prefer you to wear a helmet on all of our trips for your own safety. Your guides will give a full briefing before each ride so you know what to expect.
